MY FIRST OIL-PAINTING .

Ecco qui il primo dipinto ad olio di questa mia vita : fu un esercizio dal vero del cortile della casetta in Cile , in cui vivevamo .

Riuscii a salvarlo da una brutta fine , anni fá ; il suo grande valore é quello di marcare un momento importante della mia vita : l'inizio del mio percorso artistico .

Here you can see the first oil-painting of this life of mine : it was a still-life exercise , depicting in a very " naïve style " , the courtyard of the little Chilian wooden house we were living in .

I managed to save it from a probabile rubbish-bin ending .

It's important as a marker of the beginning of my artistic journey .

Perché sono differente ?

Perché vedo con la lente ?

Perché sentire e capire

che é meglio morire ?

A prevalicarci perseveriamo

senza mai tenderci la mano .

Perché se sono differente

la mia condanna ad essere veggente ?

Scrissi queste poche righe parecchi anni or sono .

La risposta la scoprii poco tempo fá .

Ognuno deve trovare le sue risposte , ma alla fine saremo tutti uniti da un' unica risposta : amare il nostro prossimo come amiamo noi stessi , senza aspettarci una ricompensa .

E l'effetto irradiante sará contagioso .

This little poem , written in Italian , doesn't get any rithm in English , at least in my English .

I wrote it some years ago , when I wasn't yet touched by the light .

Not long ago I found the answer to my questions .

We all have to search , and , in the end , it comes down to this : let's try to love everybody , as much as we love ourselves , no matter what .

The rest will be consequencial .

IMMAGINI E PAROLE / IMAGES AND WORDS .

L'Arte é una forma di condividere la nostra sensibilitá .

Nella Pittura, dalle immagini esposte si entra direttamente in un piano emotivo.

Nella Poesia , invece , si entra in un piano spirituale , attraverso la visualizzazione delle immagini indotte dalla lettura .

Non bisogna , quindi , fermarsi al significato delle singole parole , o solo cercare di capire che cosa volesse dire l'Autore .

È compito dei critici , per giustificare la loro presenza e posizione , quello di scervellarsi per cercare di capirne un significato recondito .

Io penso che ogni forma d'Arte sia una comunicazione individuale e diretta tra gli Essere Umani , nella loro qualitá inerente , la vera essenza .

Allo stesso modo , la comunicazione con Dio é istantanea e naturale , attraverso il nostro pensiero , e non ha perció bisogno d'intermediari .

Art is a wonderful way of sharing our sensitivity .

Looking at paintings , we can enter directely in an emotional plane , from the images depicted .

By Poetry , we can feel emotions through the visualization of the pictures induced by the reading of the verses .

We don't have to stop at the mere meaning of the words , or only try to understand what the Author wanted to show.

It's the task of the critics , who have to justify their existence and importance , to decifrate the hidden meaning of the Art works .

It's my firm opinion that all expressions of Art are forms of uncomplicated and individual communication , among Human Beings .

In the same manner , the dialogue we can have with God , through our thoughts , doesn't need mediators of any sort .

Cosí l'Orizzontale ed il Verticale si fondono nell'equilibrio della Croce , costituita da entrambe le dimensioni .

L'essere umano , scoprendo un mondo interiore , potrá cadere nell'illusione di pensare che sia possibile elevarsi senza elaborare il lato orizzontale della sua vita .

Disprezzando la materia ed il mondo oggettivo , pensando di poter crescere solo nel verticale , cioé nella spiritualitá , provocherá la sua caduta , dato che non ha il supporto necessario da cui elevarsi .

Anche in questa forma , l'essere umano sará un essere incompleto , in stato di disequilibrio .

Primo quadro di una Trilogia :

L'Essere Umano composto di corpo ed anima , replica della terra e del cielo , è simultaneamente piccolo e grande , limitato ed illimitato , puó soffrire terribilmente o essere in pace e serenitá .

Vivendo solo nell'Orizzontale , ossia nel mondo materiale oggettivo , sará un Essere Umano troncato , incompleto , incapace di elevare le vibrazioni della terra .

Nel processo di spiritualizzazione della materia , che avviene quando si scopre la vertente piú profonda , l'Essere Umano riuscirá ad unire la terra al cielo , elevando questa a quello .

The Human Being , composed of body and soul , replica of earth and heaven , simultaneosly small and big , limited and unlimited , can suffer terribly or live in a state of peacefulness .

IL MOMENTO ESATTO . / THE EXACT MOMENT .

La capacitá di cogliere il momento esatto , nel suo pieno significato é un arte , che va molto esercitata .

L'intuizione , spesso trascurata , é un consiglio che viene dal mondo spirituale , e come tale pericolosa per il "sistema" , che ci vuole piccoli automi ubbidienti alle direttive della "societá" .

È cosí che sviluppiamo solo una "coscienza-di-massa" .

Non si vuole che sviluppiano una nostra coscienza , che impariamo a pensare , a sentire , e ad ascoltare i nostri extra-sensi .

Dal momento , che credo , nulla avvenga per caso e tutto abbia una causa , compete a noi , quindi , capire e scegliere la strada , con la nostra intelligenza .

The ability of chosing the right moment , in its full meaning , is an Art , which needs to be applied .

The intuition , often ignored , is an advice which comes from the Spiritual Word , and , as such , is dangerous for the " System " , needing us to be obedient little robots .

In this way , we only develop a " Mass-Conscience " .

It's not convenient that we develop our own conscience , that we learn to think , feel and listen to our " extra-senses " .

Since nothing happens by chance - I believe - and there's a cause for everything , we should understand and choose the way , making use of our intelligence .

l'involucro di una stella

Nelle eclissi ,

mondi si impallano , l'un con l'altro ,

soffocano l'atmosfera bruna ,

la succhiano dentro le loro orbite .

che imprimiamo un movimento stanco

ad una barca che

ospita quanto di noi

nemmeno l'acqua

puó diluire .

A volte , l'amore verso il prossimo , che trova corrispondenza , puó risultare in amicizia .

Per un lungo periodo o per brevi tratti della nostra vita terrena .

Spesso dipende da attivitá che si svolgono insieme . Non é un dramma poi , se non dura tutta la vita , rimangono sempre dei bei ricordi .

Se invece c'é un'affinitá di spirito , allora puó essere duraturo , si rafforza e cresce con noi .

For a long time or for brief spells of our terrestrial existence .

Ho dipinto una serie di Carta-di-riso l'anno scorso , in acrilico molto diluito , per risaltare e mantenere la trasparenza , qualitá intrinseca dei fogli di Carta-di riso ( tecnica consigliatami dalla mia amica Pittrice Jelena Dorosev ) .

Infatti fotografare la carta-di-riso presenta non poche difficoltá ai non "addetti ai lavori" come me .

TEARS OF THE LAST DRAGON .

Struttere fatiscenti , in cui si intravede un antico splendore , che l'incuria accentua giorno per giorno .

Una coperta troppo corta , si tira da una parte , poi si tira dall'altra , ma non si riesce a coprire tutto .

La veritá diventa visibile a tutti , nei meandri di menzogna ed ingnoranza .

Goccie di pioggia , che penetrano e scivolano sulle pareti , formano pozzanghere sul pavimento , mai lavato .

O saranno le lacrime dell'ultimo Dragone ?

Decrepit structures , in wich one can glimpse an ancient splendor , that the carelessness makes evident , day upon day .

A blanket too short : one can pull it on one side , and then on the opposite side , but never succeds in covering everything .

The truth becomes evident to everybody , in the meanders of lies and nescience .

Drops of rain , which penetrate and slip along the walls , forms puddles on the floor .

Or are they tears of the last Dragon ?

"ABBRACCIANDOCI" - la mia Esposizione - é terminata , alcuni giorni prima del dovuto , per la mancanza totale di etica dell'ente che ospitava la Mostra .

Restano i lati positivi , indubbiamente piú importanti del comportamento meschino di pochi.

Ogni tanto , abbiamo bisogno di un contatto con il pubblico , per riavvicinarci al mondo attuale.

La reazione dei bambini , spontanea , immediata e libera da sovrastrutture sociali è , sempre , per me , la parte piú interessante.

Il quadro piú amato della Mostra , da tutti - grandi e piccini - é stato , senza dubbio , "Un uovo fritto" ( che appare qui nella terza foto ) : c'era chi ricordava "Il Piccolo Principe" , chi sognava grandi avventure , chi vedeva la figura materna e fonte di vita .

E poi quei "Fiori"( unico olio , da me mai dipinto con vaso di fiori ) , che Amira , bimba Inglese , tanto amó , spiegandomi poi che le dava una sensazione di gioia , e che un altro bimbo toccó per vedere se si apriva il cassettino del tavolino ...(:

"Abbracciandoci" attraeva ed intrigava molti per i suoi colori vivaci .

Ed il colpo d'occhio della parete principale , con quadri di grandi dimensioni , fu di grande effetto .

Il bene viene sempre associato con il male , che esiste come conferma della nostra libera scelta .

Anche attraverso le contraddizioni , possiamo apprezzare la complessitá dell'ambiente in cui ci muoviamo .

"ABBRACCIANDOCI" - my Exhibition - is over , a few days before planned , because of the total lack of Ethics from the Entity which hosted it .

But there are positive sides , undoubtedly more important than the petty behavior of very few people .

Every now and again , we need a contact with the Public , to get closer to the Real World .

The reaction of the children , spontaneous , immediate and free of social over-structures , constitutes , for me , always , the most interesting part .

The most loved ( by everybody , kids and grown-ups ) painting of the Exhibition has surely been " The fried egg " ( here shown in the third photo ) : some visitors thought of the " Little Prince " , a few dreamed of big adventures , while others saw a motherly figure and the source of life .

And then there was " Flowers " ( my only Oil-Painting , ever , depicting a vase of flowers ) , which Amira , an English child , liked so much , later explaining me that she felt overwhelmed by joy while looking at it , and an other boy touched to verify if it was possible to open the little drawer of the painted table .. (:

"Abbracciandoci " appealed and intrigued many people because of its bright colours .

And the general view of the main wall , with paintings of big size , provoked great effect .

Bad comes always with Good , as a confirmation of our free choice .

Even through contradictions , we can appreciate the complexity of the environment in which we are moving .

ABBRACCIANDOCI

Ci sono dei luoghi , in genere dai contorni naturali ben delimitati , dove aleggiano tranquilli spiriti benigni .

Una piccola baia , un bosco o - come in questo caso - una stretta valletta , caratterizzata da un dolce microclima , in una cornice di cascatelle e piante lussureggianti , in un coro di uccellini di molteplici speci .

Fu " amore-a-prima-vista" e di conseguenza dipinsi questa tela . Io , che raramente dipingo luoghi : qui piú che un posto si tratta di uno stato di spirito .

Si chiama CALDAS DE MONCHIQUE , villaggio di acque termali .

Poi la tela dipinta rimase arrotolata , con me per anni , finché ne capii il perché .

Domani inizia , proprio qui a Caldas , una mia Esposizione di pittura , a cui ho dato il titolo di questo quadro , che esporró per la prima volta dove si originó .

Tutto ha una logica , solo che difficilmente noi riusciamo a capirla , e solo nel momento opportuno ne afferriamo il significato .

A little bay , a woodland or - like in this case - a narrow valley , characterized by a mild microclimate , nestled among small waterfalls and luscious trees , and accompanied by thechorus of many different varieties of birds .

It was " love-at-first-sight " and , consequently , I painted this canvas .

Me that rarely paint specific landscapes : but here it's a matter of state of spirit , above all .

I'm talking about CALDAS DE MONCHIQUE , a Village appreciated for its Thermal Waters .

I stored the rolled painting for years , until I understood the reason of it .

Just in Caldas , tomorrow I will inaugurate one of my Exhibitions , entitled as that painting , which will be exposed for the first time in the same spot where it was originated .

Everything has a meaning , which we don't often understand , at least until the right moment brings an explication .

Spesso , viaggiando , mi sento chiedere : « Da dove vieni ? » .

Buona domanda : sinceramente non lo so !

Sará da dove sono nata , sará da dove vivo al momento , sará dall'ultima fermata del mio viaggio ?

Il viaggiatore sa da dove viene e dove va , il viandante sa da dove viene ma , forse , non sa ancora dove andrá .

Io non so da dove vengo .

Ma , quando arrivo in un posto , ne faccio parte , lo vivo intensamente , lo sento nel sole e nel vento , nei suoi colori ed odori , e , se hanno giá ucciso la sua anima , me ne vado .

Often , when traveling , I am asked : « Where are you coming from ? » .

Good question : honestly I don't know !

Do they mean the place where I was born , or the place where I'm living at the moment , or the latest stop of my travel ?

The traveler knows from where he comes and where's going to , the wayfarer knows from where he comes , but , perhaps , doesn't know yet where he's heading to .

I don't know where I'm coming from .

But , when I arrive in a place , I belong to it , it enters into me , I feel it in the sun and the wind , in its colours and perfumes , and - if they have killed already its soul - I leave .

Fino ad oggi , in due sole occasioni di lavoro , mi accadde di sentire una palpabile sensazione di ammirazione-amore , intensa , dolce e rispettosa per il "femminile" , non per me in particolare , dunque .

Fu con il regista Alberto Lattuada , che vidi solo due volte in occasione di un provino e con Peter Knapp , allora solo Fotografo di Moda , con cui feci un redazionale . Forse fu il modo delicato ed amorevole di trattare me e le altre ragazze , come esseri preziosi e speciali .

Non so se questo fosse percettibile a tutti , o se solo la mia spiccata sensibilitá lo captó . Una sensazione davvero rara , ancora piú rara , in certi ambienti ; non personale ma direi oggettiva .

E naturalmente tra Artisti .

Until now , I felt an overwhelming delicate and powerful sense of love and admiration for us women , in just two working occasions . Not for me only .

It was by the film Director Alberto Lattuada , whom , I saw twice , for a casting ; and by the Photographer Peter Knapp ( then just Fashion Photographer ) during a one-day redactional session .

Probably it was the delicate and sweet way to treat us girls , as if we were precious and special .

I don't know if this was clearly visible to everybody , or my sensitivity helped me to catch it .

A rare sensation , not personal but almost universal .

Naturally this can happen among Artists .

Ci sono delle donne , che quando arrivano nella vita di un uomo , a qualsiasi etá , cercano di cancellare tutto quello che é avvenuto precedentemente alla loro trionfale entrata .....

Peró , non ci riescono completamente, perché gli affetti profondi non si possono dimenticare ; si accantonano , o anche reprimono , ma poi , inevitabilmente , riaffiorano .

Il gioco , invece , ottiene l'effetto desiderato nella loro prole , che non avendo termini di paragone , finisce per conformarsi con l'atteggiamento materno .

There is a particular kind of woman who , when arrives in the life of a man - no matter at what stage - tries to erase everything which happened before her triumphal entrance ...

But she doesn't totally succeed , because the deep affections cannot be forgotten ; they are put aside , or even repressed , but inevitably resurface later on .

Instead , her scheme reaps the desired effects on the offspring , who , not having means of comparison , end toeing their mother's attitude .

Non si sa se provocata da caratteristiche naturali , dalle tracce lasciate da chi ci ha vissuto , o dalla combinazione di questi fattori .

Nella Venezia attuale , che continua a rispecchiarsi nei suoi canali , rieccheggiano aspetti libertini della sua storia meno recente , che producono un effetto tangibile a chi non vuole esserne immune e se ne lascia sedurre .

We don't know if provoked by natural characteristics , the legacy left by whom had been living there or by the combination of these factors .

While contemporary Venice continues to mirror herself in the canals , libertine aspects of her less recent history still linger . They produce a tangible effect upon whom doesn't resist but allows to be seduced by them .

Ho recentemente recuperato e fotografato questo quadro , dipinto in Australia , nel 1995 .

Australia , terra di immigrazione , e speranze di una vita migliore , spesso concretizzate , nel passato , da migliaia di Italiani e non solo , che aiutarono a costruire le infrastrutture di un paese bellissimo , ma primitivo .

Dedico questa immagine ad Alfio Mammino , che partí dalle falde del Vesuvio con una sola valigia , e che ci fece partecipe con i suoi racconti di esperienze epiche e successi .

Metafora di vita , quindi di semina , attesa e raccolta .

Australia , land of immigration , opportunities and hopes for a better life , often realized by thousand of Italian ( and not only) immigrants , in the past. They helped to build all the infrastructures in that beautiful and savage land.

This is dedicated to Alfio Mammino , who represents the positive aspects of immigration : He left from the Vesuvio slopes with the mythical suitcase only , full of hopes .

In Alfio's tales there were many epic and successful implications .

In questo mondo , dove pure l'ipocrisia regna sovrana , davanti ad un'opera d'arte si é nudi .

I sentimenti e le sensazioni quindi affiorano , ma poi , per paura della derisione altrui o di apparire come realmente siamo , spesso decidiamo di non manifestarli .

Credo che cosí si possa spiegare perché sia tanto difficile per molti di Voi aggiungere commenti qui .

Per gli " addetti-ai-lavori " é invece pratica comune scambiarsi opinioni e suggerimenti , che finiscono per arricchire tutti , compresi coloro che non si sono sentiti di partecipare attivamente .

Hence feelings and sentiments do surface , but then , for fear of public derision or not to show ourselves for what we really are , often we decide not to manifest them .

I think this is a way to explain why for many of You it's so difficult to add a commentary here .

Quando andavo a scuola , passavo sempre davanti ad un negozio di giocattoli .
In vetrina c'erano tantissime bambole , ma il mio preferito era un bambolotto . Il mio compleanno ed altre feste , come il Natale , erano appena passate , quindi non c'era la possibilitá di "averlo".
Cosí , ogni mattina - all'andata ed al ritorno da scuola - mi ritrovavo con il naso incollato alla vetrina , "giocando" con il bambolotto , nella mia fantasia .
Dopo alcuni mesi , mi accorsi che non era proprio necessario "possederlo " , tenerlo tra le mani , ma mi bastava guardarlo ed " andarlo a trovare " .

When I was a kid , going to Primary School , I was always passing by a Toy-Shop .
In the window , there were many dolls , but my favorite was a Baby .
My birthday and other important dates , like Christmas , had already gone by , so there was no way I could get him .
So , every morning - on my way to School and back - I was finding myself with my nose glued to the window , playing with him , in my fantasy .
After a few months , I realized there was no absolute need to " possess " him , to hold him by my hands ; for me it was enough to have a look at and " visit " him .

Caro José Saramago ,

Per me leggere i suoi Libri é un po' come starla ad ascoltare e condividere spesso i suoi pensieri e considerazioni a riguardo della Vita in generale .

Come avere un Compagno-di-Pensiero in questa societá che tanto ostacola qualsiasi processo culturale .

Sembra che ci sia un bisogno sociale per un esercito di soldatini obbedienti , che non sono autorizzati a pensare con il loro proprio cervello , ma forzati a seguire le regole imposte dai Potenti .

Le sue osservazioni , sempre profonde e sagge , spesso ironiche e divertenti , invitano il Lettore attento a riflettere ed a raggiungere importanti conclusioni .

Le sue parole costituiscono un tangibile irritante per il " Sistema " , che si sente minacciato quando gli individui decidono di seguire la loro propria coscienza .

La sua definizione di " Cultura " come risultato di un processo di riflessione , come pure l'equazione che eguaglia il pensiero profondo con il conoscimento , sono , secondo me , geniali intuizioni di grande semplicitá ed immediatezza .

Sono cosciente del suo profondo amore per la Gente e la Terra che l'hanno vista nascere .

For me reading your books has always been like hearing your voice , often sharing your thoughts and considerations about different aspects of Life itself .

Like having a Thinking Companion in this society which hinders so much any cultural process .

It seems that there is a social need for an Army of obedient soldiers , which are not allowed to think with their own brain , but forced to follow the rules of the Greedy and the Powerful .

Your observations , always deep and wise , often ironic and amusing , invite the attentive reader to reflect and draw important conclusions .

Your written words are a tangible hindrance for the " System " which feels threatened when individuals decide to follow their own conscience .

Your definition of " Culture " as the result of the thinking process , as much as the equation where deep thought coincide with sure knowledge , are , for me , genial intuitions of the utmost simplicity and immediacy .

I am aware of your profound love for the Land and People of the country which saw your birth .

I also know that you always could keep away from the corruption of the Politicians , and the limitations of geographical boundaries and of a single , native , language .

Who said that Ghosts are trapped perpetually inside the ancestral house they are related to ?

It might occur that , instead , some of 'em decide to migrate to other , more comfortable places or find reasons to haunt people somewhere else .

For example , here the " spiritual dwellers " found themselves in a situation they weren't prepared for : my family house was dispossesed and sold to speculators .

Future residents there will not share any of my past and cannot be accountable for other people's wrongdoings , so I reason the Ghosts should move and haunt those who are really responsible for the situation !!!

What You see here is the result of a series of studies on horses , Marialuisa was asked to do , for an eventual Exhibition .

That explains why , apparently , You have been confronted with a different type of work to the one You are used to .

The challenge was happily taken by Marialuisa , since she has been always quite fond of horses !!!

While we can consider these subjects and the way they were executed , a little far from the " main stream " of Marialuisa's activity , it's always interesting to try & recognise her style in there .
