Chi osserva un quadro , di solito , é il soggetto dell'azione .

Intendo dire che applica la sua vista per tentare di svelarne i particolari e dar loro significato .

In quest caso - invece - sembra di essere investiti dalla " curiositá " del Quadro stesso , che ci " scruta " , quasi volesse estorcerci qualche segreto ..

Usually who looks at a painting , is the subject of the action .

I mean that one's sight is applied to try and reveal the details , giving them some interpretation .

In this case - though - it seems that we are the object of the " curiosity " of the Painting itself , which " scrutinizes " , perhaps trying to extort a few secrets from us ..

In questo mondo , dove pure l'ipocrisia regna sovrana , davanti ad un'opera d'arte si é nudi .

I sentimenti e le sensazioni quindi affiorano , ma poi , per paura della derisione altrui o di apparire come realmente siamo , spesso decidiamo di non manifestarli .

Credo che cosí si possa spiegare perché sia tanto difficile per molti di Voi aggiungere commenti qui .

Per gli " addetti-ai-lavori " é invece pratica comune scambiarsi opinioni e suggerimenti , che finiscono per arricchire tutti , compresi coloro che non si sono sentiti di partecipare attivamente .

Even though hypocrisy rules in our world , in front of a work-of-art we are all naked .

Hence feelings and sentiments do surface , but then , for fear of public derision or not to show ourselves for what we really are , often we decide not to manifest them .

I think this is a way to explain why for many of You it's so difficult to add a commentary here .

Instead , for the " Insiders " it's quite common to exchange opinions and suggestions , which are valuable tools even for those who didn't actively participate in the process .

I consider it as a challenge , trying to make evident aspects that rarely meet the eye and often are concealed under the wrinkles of a face .

This woman - a talented painter , who considers me as a friend - uses her artistic activity to overcome mishaps and sufferings of life .

But Jelena remains permeated by a certain sadness , exacerbated by the situation of having to live in a foreign country .

Dipingere ritratti mi ha sempre affascinato .

Trovo sia una sfida , quella di cercare di fare affiorare connotati che l'occhio spesso non vede direttamente e che spesso nemmeno le pieghe del viso rivelano .

Questa donna - pittrice di talento che mi onora della sua amicizia - attraverso la sua attivitá artistica , é riuscita ad astrarsi dalle peripezie e sofferenze della vita .

Rimane - peró - permeata da un'indubbia tristezza , accentuata dalla condizione di dover vivere in terra straniera .

LA CASA DELLE BAMBOLE .

Quando andavo a scuola , passavo sempre davanti ad un negozio di giocattoli .
In vetrina c'erano tantissime bambole , ma il mio preferito era un bambolotto . Il mio compleanno ed altre feste , come il Natale , erano appena passate , quindi non c'era la possibilitá di "averlo".
Cosí , ogni mattina - all'andata ed al ritorno da scuola - mi ritrovavo con il naso incollato alla vetrina , "giocando" con il bambolotto , nella mia fantasia .
Dopo alcuni mesi , mi accorsi che non era proprio necessario "possederlo " , tenerlo tra le mani , ma mi bastava guardarlo ed " andarlo a trovare " .

When I was a kid , going to Primary School , I was always passing by a Toy-Shop .
In the window , there were many dolls , but my favorite was a Baby .
My birthday and other important dates , like Christmas , had already gone by , so there was no way I could get him .
So , every morning - on my way to School and back - I was finding myself with my nose glued to the window , playing with him , in my fantasy .
After a few months , I realized there was no absolute need to " possess " him , to hold him by my hands ; for me it was enough to have a look at and " visit " him .

Caro José Saramago ,

Per me leggere i suoi Libri é un po' come starla ad ascoltare e condividere spesso i suoi pensieri e considerazioni a riguardo della Vita in generale .

Come avere un Compagno-di-Pensiero in questa societá che tanto ostacola qualsiasi processo culturale .

Sembra che ci sia un bisogno sociale per un esercito di soldatini obbedienti , che non sono autorizzati a pensare con il loro proprio cervello , ma forzati a seguire le regole imposte dai Potenti .

Le sue osservazioni , sempre profonde e sagge , spesso ironiche e divertenti , invitano il Lettore attento a riflettere ed a raggiungere importanti conclusioni .

Le sue parole costituiscono un tangibile irritante per il " Sistema " , che si sente minacciato quando gli individui decidono di seguire la loro propria coscienza .

La sua definizione di " Cultura " come risultato di un processo di riflessione , come pure l'equazione che eguaglia il pensiero profondo con il conoscimento , sono , secondo me , geniali intuizioni di grande semplicitá ed immediatezza .

Sono cosciente del suo profondo amore per la Gente e la Terra che l'hanno vista nascere .

So anche come si mantenesse lontano dalla corruzione del mondo politico e dalle limitazioni di confini geografici prestabiliti o dall'uso di un singolo idioma nativo .

Lei ha sempre riconosciuto la Bellezza indipendentemente da dove e come apparisse , sia che fosse in un paesaggio naturale o in un'opera artistica umana , non necessariamente prodotta da qualcuno dei suoi connazionali .

Un vero Artista Globale , viaggiatore e nel contempo vagabondo su questo Pianeta .

La ringrazio moltissimo per quello che ci ha lasciato , destinato all'apprezzamento di tutti e che la Storia si incaricherá di tramandare .

For me reading your books has always been like hearing your voice , often sharing your thoughts and considerations about different aspects of Life itself .

Like having a Thinking Companion in this society which hinders so much any cultural process .

It seems that there is a social need for an Army of obedient soldiers , which are not allowed to think with their own brain , but forced to follow the rules of the Greedy and the Powerful .

Your observations , always deep and wise , often ironic and amusing , invite the attentive reader to reflect and draw important conclusions .

Your written words are a tangible hindrance for the " System " which feels threatened when individuals decide to follow their own conscience .

Your definition of " Culture " as the result of the thinking process , as much as the equation where deep thought coincide with sure knowledge , are , for me , genial intuitions of the utmost simplicity and immediacy .

I am aware of your profound love for the Land and People of the country which saw your birth .

I also know that you always could keep away from the corruption of the Politicians , and the limitations of geographical boundaries and of a single , native , language .

You always recognized Beauty independently of where and how it appeared , either in an harmonic natural landscape , or in a meaningful work of Art , not necessarily produced by one of your compatriots .

Who said that Ghosts are trapped perpetually inside the ancestral house they are related to ?

It might occur that , instead , some of 'em decide to migrate to other , more comfortable places or find reasons to haunt people somewhere else .

For example , here the " spiritual dwellers " found themselves in a situation they weren't prepared for : my family house was dispossesed and sold to speculators .

Future residents there will not share any of my past and cannot be accountable for other people's wrongdoings , so I reason the Ghosts should move and haunt those who are really responsible for the situation !!!

What You see here is the result of a series of studies on horses , Marialuisa was asked to do , for an eventual Exhibition .

That explains why , apparently , You have been confronted with a different type of work to the one You are used to .

The challenge was happily taken by Marialuisa , since she has been always quite fond of horses !!!

While we can consider these subjects and the way they were executed , a little far from the " main stream " of Marialuisa's activity , it's always interesting to try & recognise her style in there .
